Turning a 1-Star Review into Fuel for Growth: My STARS Moment
English Version Last month, I received my first 1-star review for my book. The emotions hit me all at once: confusion, doubt, surprise, and then a wave of anger. I couldn’t believe someone had written such a harsh and, in my eyes, unfair critique. Sure, my book isn’t the absolute best in its category, but it didn’t deserve a one-star rating filled with such sharp criticism. My first instinct was to fight back. I wanted to report the review and leave an even harsher reply. The urge to defend my work was strong. But I didn’t do it. Choose Calmness over Chaos Instead, I chose to use STARS — the anger management technique I’ve been practicing — to regain control. I stepped away, breathed, and allowed the initial storm of emotions to pass. Once I found peace and clarity, I returned to the review with a learning and growth mindset.
